Summary

In Believe IT, Jamie Kern Lima, founder of IT Cosmetics, shares the wild but true story of how a once struggling waitress turned her against-the-grain idea into an international bestselling sensation, eventually selling the company for over a billion dollars and becoming the first female CEO of a brand in L’Oréal’s 100+ year history。 Faced with self-doubt, body-doubt, God-doubt, down to her last few dollars and told: “No one is going to buy makeup from someone who has your body,” Jamie reveals for the first time what really went down, how she almost didn’t make it, and the deeply personal and powerful business lessons you can use to go from underestimated to unstoppable。 With radical vulnerability and honesty, Jamie also shares deeply personal stories of heartbreak and resilience—including accidentally finding out that she was adopted when she was in her twenties, and the reverberations this has had on all aspects of her life。 Spellbinding, riveting, with raw vulnerability, and down-to-earth warmth, Believe IT shakes your soul and shows you that you, too, have what it takes to achieve the impossible。

Believe It is the book you didn't know you needed to read until you have started reading it。 I didn't want to put this book down。 Literally, I wanted to binge-read it。 Jamie's story isn't just her story。 It's our story。 As Women, we have all experienced doubt。 We have felt defeated at some point。 Together we can help each other overcome those feelings。 Jamie had done just that with her booK。 She shares her struggles, defeats, and victories as she developed IT Cosmetics and so much more about her Believe It is the book you didn't know you needed to read until you have started reading it。 I didn't want to put this book down。 Literally, I wanted to binge-read it。 Jamie's story isn't just her story。 It's our story。 As Women, we have all experienced doubt。 We have felt defeated at some point。 Together we can help each other overcome those feelings。 Jamie had done just that with her booK。 She shares her struggles, defeats, and victories as she developed IT Cosmetics and so much more about her life in such an authentic way。 I'm so grateful she decided to put her story out there and be vulnerable to inspire other Women to become unstoppable。 Truly an amazing book that will change so many lives。 。。。more

I liked that the book was raw and real but toward the end the religious talk became too much for me。 In the beginning it was a page turner I wanted to know what happened next。 I teared up at certain points because it was written as if I was talking with the author but there was just too much faith toward the end for my liking。

I love this book。 It's a quick and easy read。 Jamie seems like such an authentic and good hearted person。 I would love to read more from her。 The book is really inspiring。 I'll probably read it again when I need encouragement, which is often! It also is interesting to find out some of the backstory of how things work at a cosmetic company and a home shopping network。 I love this book。 It's a quick and easy read。 Jamie seems like such an authentic and good hearted person。 I would love to read more from her。 The book is really inspiring。 I'll probably read it again when I need encouragement, which is often! Where to even begin。。。。 Let’s start with the fact that through reading this extraordinarily candid, real, and raw autobiographical account, that Jamie Kern Lee has become one of my favorite human beings on the planet。 Next, I would say that I deeply wish every female entrepreneur in the entire world would read this book。 Seriously。 I believe it would set them free and on fire for what is possible when they live in the honest and full expression of themselves and refuse to quit or be confined to Where to even begin。。。。 Let’s start with the fact that through reading this extraordinarily candid, real, and raw autobiographical account, that Jamie Kern Lee has become one of my favorite human beings on the planet。 Next, I would say that I deeply wish every female entrepreneur in the entire world would read this book。 Seriously。 I believe it would set them free and on fire for what is possible when they live in the honest and full expression of themselves and refuse to quit or be confined to cultural norms and expectations。 I’d follow by saying this should be required reading in every single business classroom in High Schools and colleges around the country (and world!) and conclude by saying that anybody who is trying to do something new, whether it is start a company from your apartment living room, to breaking through stereotypes and glass ceilings, to wanting to see a template of what a life of overcoming looks like in the face of crushing rejections and life circumstances, this is the book for you。 Simply blown away by Jamie’s life, tenacity, persistence, and relentlessness in outright defiance of consistent and seemingly crushing adversity。 She shares of her victories and triumphs, but much more of her crushing defeats, self-doubt and personal struggles with image and rejection。 Vulnerability and authenticity are maxed throughout this entire book which is one of the primary reasons I believe you can’t help but to admire and be so incredibly endeared to the author。 As I said in the beginning, Jamie Kern Lee is one of my favorite people on the planet and I have a feeling that her influence and impact while already profound and extensive, has only just begun。 Cannot recommend more highly both Jamie as a person and this most remarkable and candid memoir of what I believe will end up being only the opening Act of a life extraordinary well lived。 。。。more

Fantastic book! I enjoyed it, but could see how women would get a lot more out of it。 As some of her struggles seem to be more woman related (ex。 having a child)。 Nevertheless, how she overcame her objections and still is were valuable lessons and the tools she shared are some I will use immediately。 Highly recommend!

I was so pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book。 Jamie was raw and real from start to finish。 I used to be a huge fan of Big Brother and couldn't remember Jamie as a contestant on the show。 It was so fun to go back and find her in past episodes。 I loved how she talked about her faith but it wasn't pushy and in your face。 I was so pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this book。 Jamie was raw and real from start to finish。 I used to be a huge fan of Big Brother and couldn't remember Jamie as a contestant on the show。 It was so fun to go back and find her in past episodes。 I loved how she talked about her faith but it wasn't pushy and in your face。 。。。more

So I gave 4 out of 5 but readers who are into self help books more would most definitely give a 5 out of 5 because this book is extremely uplifting! This woman’s journey is remarkable and insane- if it doesn’t inspire you then you are literally a rock。 Journals how Jamie goes from working in her living room nearly broke to selling her cosmetics company for over $1 billion。。。 her personal story from her childhood, having her own children and her relationships are all relatable/shed even more ligh So I gave 4 out of 5 but readers who are into self help books more would most definitely give a 5 out of 5 because this book is extremely uplifting! A nicely-written story with a lot of kindness, encouragement, and inspiration behind it, but I didn’t find myself to be personally moved by it for some reason。

What an inspirational woman! She is so full of love and gives a roadmap of how we can become more loving to other women。 I loved her messages throughout the memoir and the stories she shared。 The last few chapters were my favoites。 I hope to meet Oprah one day, too, because I believe I'm destined for something wonderful! I didn't know anything about Jamie's journey。 In this book, she's bold, honest, genuine, and completely open about her story of how she got to where she is。 I'm so happy I actually did this in an audible form - her story in her tone made all the difference for me。 I didn't know anything about Jamie's journey。 In this book, she's bold, honest, genuine, and completely open about her story of how she got to where she is。 I'm so happy I actually did this in an audible form - her story in her tone made all the difference for me。 。。。more

I really enjoyed listening to Jamie's story。 This would be an excellent book to listen to for a young woman (even teenager), just starting out in the world。 In fact, potentially any woman who is or ever has been:a fan of It Cosmeticsan entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur insecuredoubting Godinterested in the beauty industryadoptedorinterested in listening to an encouraging friend's wordsThis is not a religious or Christian book。 But her faith is just one part of her story。 It sounds like Jamie I really enjoyed listening to Jamie's story。 This would be an excellent book to listen to for a young woman (even teenager), just starting out in the world。 In fact, potentially any woman who is or ever has been:a fan of It Cosmeticsan entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur insecuredoubting Godinterested in the beauty industryadoptedorinterested in listening to an encouraging friend's wordsThis is not a religious or Christian book。 But her faith is just one part of her story。 It sounds like Jamie is really in tune with God's voice, most likely due to her very loving spirit。She did a good job on narrating。 。。。more

I felt meandered a bit and slightly disorganized with content and flow。 By end I was looking for more substance and was ready to be done。 But she is very inspirational and her story is fascinating。

BELIEVE ME。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。"BELIEVE IT" was NOT a beautiful read for this reviewer。BELIEVE ME。。。。。。。。。。。。。。The first half of the book was strong and compelling。 Readers learn that the beauty brand Jamie Kern Lima started with her husband in their living room was not an instant hit。 Even though Jamie received hundreds of rejections multiple times from major beauty brands, retailers, distributors and news outlets, however, she undauntingly refused to quit because she believed in her product。 Jamie's BELIEVE ME。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。"BELIEVE IT" was NOT a beautiful read for this reviewer。BELIEVE ME。。。。。。。。。。。。。。The first half of the book was strong and compelling。 Readers learn that the beauty brand Jamie Kern Lima started with her husband in their living room was not an instant hit。 Even though Jamie received hundreds of rejections multiple times from major beauty brands, retailers, distributors and news outlets, however, she undauntingly refused to quit because she believed in her product。 Jamie's candid struggles were both inspirational and admirable; providing readers with a deeper understanding of the woman behind the brand that was sold to L'Oreal in 2016 for $1。2 billion。BELIEVE ME。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。The last half of the book was repetitious and could have easily been deleted。 Also, much-too-much information about the author's faith in God was showcased in the latter portion of the book。 I respect the author's religious beliefs and I am certainly not denouncing these beliefs。 However, if the author's book was a faith-based memoir this should have been told to readers upfront。BELIEVE ME and BEWARE:The author invested $$$ in creating a robust "BELIEVE IT launch team"; giving away many free copies of BELIEVE IT as well as sizable "incentive rewards"。 https://believeit。com/team/Soooo。。。。 when you see many of those 5-star BELIEVE IT reviews, BEWARE! In other words, when viewing one of those 5-star BELIEVE IT reviews, don't feel that you have to BELIEVE IT。I listened to the audio version of this book。 I always love it when memoirs are read by the author and Jamie Kern Lima did a superb job with the narration。 。。。more

As a woman who got an undergraduate business degree when my friends were becoming nurses or teachers, I wondered if Believe It would be relevant to me。 But it was, because I appreciated the stories that showed what women are still having to deal with in business to make it big。 I really appreciated reading all the struggles she had in her business and personal life and how she kept on going。 She shared the lessons she learned, sometimes learning them the hard way。 I appreciated how she talked to As a woman who got an undergraduate business degree when my friends were becoming nurses or teachers, I wondered if Believe It would be relevant to me。 But it was, because I appreciated the stories that showed what women are still having to deal with in business to make it big。 I really appreciated reading all the struggles she had in her business and personal life and how she kept on going。 She shared the lessons she learned, sometimes learning them the hard way。 I appreciated how she talked to the reader from her heart – the most vulnerable I have read of anyone writing a book。 Her writing flows along well and I found her stories relevant to women who like seeing the cosmetics industry behind the scenes。 Her stories are also relevant to women who doubt themselves and/or feel inadequate。 I note this quote that resonated with me: “As women, so many of us end up sitting on the sidelines of life, and the sidelines of our dreams, because we feel unready, or unqualified, or not enough。” Even though she had the advantage of being smart and marrying a smart person committed to helping her in the business, she faced weight discrimination; I think this is one of the final types of discrimination, especially toward women, that appears acceptable in business。 It can be so subtle that you hardly realize it or blatant as one example she gives。 I hope this book makes more people aware of that type of discrimination and how it can still slow down women in their careers。 I believe that we will hear more from Jamie Kern Lima as it appears she is in a new stage of her career with the arrival of this book。 。。。more
